A Directory Service allows people to manage and control their network even if changes are needed because of changes to software and hardware.
A Directory Services allows for:
• Security – The establishment of rules defining who can access what information. This enhances control of information within the organization.
• Storage – The storage of a Directory is essentially the database structure for the type of data being stored, as well as how and where the data is being stored.
• Discovery – The ability to search, browse and retrieve information from within the Directory.
• Relationship Management – Create and maintain associations between objects in the Directory, such as people to mail listings, computers to applications, or managers to employees.
